The Britannica Concise Encyclopedia has been launched on the mobile in India by Hutch. Apparently, the concise version covers around 25,000 topics, and gives users access to content on the go. The Encyclopedia has been launched in collaboration with Mobifusion, and it’s not clear whether it’s a download, or whether it’s accessible by SMS as well. [via release]
Well, search is critical for something as data heavy as an Encyclopedia. In competition with such a service are the mobile packs by Webaroo – I know they have Wikipedia packs, but usage is probably limited by the size of the mobile pack. On the other hand, that content can be browsed offline, and one can pick and choose content – I think customization is key.
