Motorola has announced it will buy Somerset, New Jersey-based Leapstone Systems in the third quarter this year — the financial terms were not disclosed. Leapstone produces software that helps carriers create and deliver video, voice and data services across multiple networks, and counts AT&T and Verizon amongst its customers. Leapstone’s systems complement “Motorola’s Global Applications Management Architecture, which is specific to mobile networks” according to Sean Matthews, a senior director of strategy at Motorola reports InfoWorld. The aquisition appears to be part of Motorola’s strategy to keep pace with the operators as they move into “quad-play” offerings, with the new technology supporting things like IPTV.
