– A JP Morgan analyst first said yesterday that Apple is looking into launching a slimmed-down iPhone phone based on the iPod Nano, which it will price around $300, Silicon.com…and later on today, it issued a research note distancing itself from that claim. The note said today that the firm “has not been able to independently confirm” the analyst’s comments with a second source, and also mentions that “a lower-end iPhone appearing in the near-term would be unusual and highly risky.”
— Gizmodo is reporting that iPhone’s file system has been compromised, and that full access to the file system means custom ringtones and other conten goodies…but still to technical for anyone sane to try it.
— Synchronica’s MS Exchange gateway now fully supports Apple’s iPhone, thus providing the functionality that has been touted as the biggest problem with the device, reports Register. MS Exchange already offers a webmail interface which works fine with the iPhone browser, and some companies are also happy to open up IMAP and SMTP connections.
— Not exactly a Skype app on iPhone, but a decent workaround: you can install SoonR Talk application on your home PC and then logging into the AJAX-enabled SoonR website on iPhone lets you access Skype…you can use it to call Skype contacts through your iPhone, but SkypeOut credits will be used due to the PSTN leg needed to dial your mobile.
