– MTV hasn’t been known for its music videos for quite awhile. But over the past month, the network has been returning to its roots, with its free Video Remixer service. Billboard reports on the quiet launch of the video mashup service that lets users create their own versions of certain videos using snippets from the original video, archived MTV footage, photos and other media. MTV broadcasts the top-rated submissions.
— Joost has done a deal with its investor Viacom, where VH1 will premiere the entire season of its new scripted comedy series “I Hate My 30s” exclusively on the service July 16 — 10 days ahead of the series’ broadcast premiere…”30s” will run with advertising on Joost. The premiere episode also will get sneak peeks on VH1.com as well as the channel’s mobile and VOD offerings.
— YES Network, the TV network of New York Yankees, has started doing a slew of digital deals, with Yahoo, Amazon, Joost and ROO. Details of these deals are here in this MediaWeek story.
— Hewlett-Packard is talking with content providers about bringing movie previews and TV shows – as well as user-generated content – to its line of internet-connected MediaSmart LCD TV sets. HP currently has an agreement with CinemaNow, which gives MediaSmart users the chance to browse, buy and rent more than 4,000 titles directly from the TV set. Videos are downloaded to a consumer
