Despite the excitement and initiative surrounding IPTV in the country, the lack of a dedicated regulatory body is hurting growth in this area, the Financial Express reports. Telecom operator MTNL expects the number of Mumbai and Delhi customers for its IPTV service to be 40 times its current paltry base of 1,000.
Still, without a single regulatory body to oversee this field, revenue sharing disagreements between IPTV providers like MTNL and broadcasters like ZEE, Sony and Star have persisted. Some industry sources believe that operators are not pushing the government to set up a proper IPTV framework.
