Bjorn Stromberg of UltraMobileLife has gotten his hands on two unique ultra-portable PCs, the Via NanoBook (reference design) and the Packard Bell EasyNote XS which will be released in Europe end of August. The Via NanoBook has a unique removable USB module to the right of the screen that houses a VoIP phone as demonstrated but Bjorn points out that the USB connection means that OEMs can put any USB device into this slot as desired. The EasyNote puts a web cam in the spot backing up Bjorn’s claim that any USB device can be engineered to fit this reference design space. I wouldn’t call either of these devices UMPCs as they have no touch screen nor active digitizer so they are really ultra-portable notebook computers. Very cool stuff so check out the video:
