Our earlier post on the new Logitech webcams prompted a great comment from John who said, "I wish someone would make a bluetooth webcam. I hate wires. Especially when I going minimal and only carrying my UMPC."
I’m similar to John in that my UMPC goes practically everywhere with me, as does a smartphone. These days I’m switching between the Nokia N80ie and the T-Mobile Dash, both of which have an integrated camera. Turns out that we mentioned the Mobiola Web Camera software in the past, so I gave it another look-see. It currently supports both Symbian S60, UIQ, Windows Mobile 5 & 6 handhelds and Java-based devices. What does it do? It turns your camera-enabled phone into a Bluetooth or USB webcam. While you won’t likely get the high quality of a dedicated webcam, it might do the trick for a mobile computer and a smartphone if both have Bluetooth.
There’s a trial for each version of the app and the price varies between $4.95 and $19.95 depending on your phone platform. The computer side of the app is PC only and works with Skype, Yahoo, MSN, AOL IM, ICQ as well as YouTube.
