Costner Dances with Web Video

Kevin Costner will be bankrolling a new animated web video show to be released over the holidays titled The Explorers Club, according a report from Variety. Written by Scotland’s Black Lamp Productions and animated by Burbank’s Chiodo Bros. Productions, Costner will voice a character and the writers will develop a feature film script based on the concept, which will be a Victorian-era period piece with a Gothic sensibility.

waterworld-1.jpgTwelve four-minute episodes are planned. It’s an interesting way to judge audience reaction to a project before spending money developing the script into a full feature. Costner joins the likes of Michael Eisner, Barry Diller, Will Ferrell, and other Hollywood luminaries dipping their toes in creating content for the web.

Waterworld jokes aside Wait, on second thought, leave your jokes in the comments. For instance, my original headline idea was, “Has Web Video Met its Waterworld?” Or maybe, “Postman Auteur Goes Viral.”
