Indians Asia’s Top Music Video Watchers, Mobile Music Hits A High Note

Indian urbanites are among the top television music video watchers and a growing number of them are downloading music on their mobiles, according to the Branded, MTV and Synovate Music Matters survey – on music habits and attitudes of young urban Asians. [via Business Standard]
Here are some highlights from the study:
– Of the Indian urban consumer respondents, the survey revealed 67 percent watch music videos on television almost every day, and 22 percent watch them two to three times a week, the highest rates in Asia.
– Mobile music is also a fast growing segment with one third of respondents having downloaded and saved a song to their mobile phone in the past month, and 56 percent ready to replace their digital music devices with music-playing mobile phones, according to Craig Harvey, director of media research Asia Pacific for Synovate.
– Television was named device used most often to listen to music by 44 percent of the Indian urban youth while regionally radio was chosen by 20 percent as the device most often used to listen to music, with 19 percent choosing television.
– Local pop is the most prefered music with 85 percent nominated for it, followed by classical music at 42 percent and western music at 40 percent.
– 56 percent are ready to replace their digital music player with a music-playing mobile phone.
