AT&T has bought regional US telco Dobson for $2.8 billion in cash and the assumption of $2.3 billion in debt, bringing the total price to $5.1 billion. Dobson has 1.7 million subscribers across 17 states, and the deal is expected to close by the end of the year. AT&T said it “expected a significant reduction in annual roaming expenses, and numerous “synergy opportunities” in overhead, operations and other areas. As a result, AT&T expected the net value of these benefits to be $2.5 billion” reports Information Week.
The San Antonio Business Journal notes that “by becoming part of AT&T’s network, Dobson’s customers will be able to order the Apple iPhone and take advantage of the computer company’s music subscription service”.
