U.S. District Judge Puts Google In Place; Sides With Justice On Microsoft Antitrust Case

Google tried an end run of sorts by asking U.S. District Court Colleen Kollar-Kotelly to extend antitrust oversight of Microsoft past the expected November expiration for most provisions. But the judge rebuffed the request — for now, reminding Google it is not a party in the case and saying that she would continue to rely on the Justice department and state attorneys general to represent consumers. Google should take its concerns to DOJ and the states, Kollar-Kotelluy said during Tuesday’s regularly scheduled quarterly hearing.

WSJ: “The judge left open Google’s request that the court extend the time frame of the original consent decree if it was deemed that Microsoft wasn’t implementing the changes to Vista it had pledged to do. But she made it clear that it would be up to government lawyers to seek such an extension rather for Google to do so.”
