Industry Moves: Jim Ryan To CEO Of Mobile Campus

Jim Ryan, the former head of AT&T’s Wireless data services division, will become the chief executive of privately held Mobile Campus, which sends text alerts and promotions to college students. Ryan worked for two years to clinch AT&Ts exclusive iPhone deal with Apple reports Reuters via NDTV, and left in May because he didn’t want to get involved with all the operational aspects of the iPhone launch. One of Ryan’s first tasks will be to raise between $5-20 million in venture capital over the next three months. The company will initially focuson on forging relationships with universities and local merchants.

Ryan is uniquely placed to have an opinion on the iPhone and its impact on AT&T: “He expected iPhone sales to represent a “small to reasonable” percentage of AT&T phone sales, but added it was unlikely the device would dominate the U.S. cell phone market…”I don’t think that ultimately iPhone takes over the world. I think it helps set the bar” for phone design, Ryan told Reuters. “You’ll see real competition in the phone market.”
