Rediff Launches Digg-like Blogshowcase; Social Networking Site?

Rediff unveiled a platform for bloggers at the Blogcamp at Pune called Blogshowcase. Users have to submit their RSS feeds, which Rediff then showcases at the site (screenshot), with tags and categories. A Digg like function allows users to vote for posts, leave a comment and interestingly – report abuse. Signing up and allows you to favorite posts. Also, if you visit any link from the blog showcase, there’s not-thin-enough strip on top of each page linking back to Rediff (screenshot)…something similar exists for google image search and a few other sites. Nothing unique in terms of functionality with Rediff Blogshowcase, as far as I can see. What is different is that they’ve chosen to focus on blogs, and go beyond their Rediff iLand and Rediff Blogs platforms.
Initially, access to blogshowcase will be by invitation only. As per the release, Rediff’s blogging community iLand (which doesn’t render well with Firefox), has been growing by 150 percent.

Now sources have informed us that Rediff is working on a social networking site, which Rediff has denied. They’ve said that they’re adding functionality to iLand, and that’s about it. Rediff has experimented with a social networking site before – they had launched Connexions around three years ago, and it’s still in beta.
