Sync iTunes with nearly any MP3 player: iTunes Sync

Itunessync_1_0_sync

Caught this over at Michael Gartenberg’s blog this morning; in fact, I’m slated to meet up with Michael next week and I hope those plans don’t fall through as I’m a big fan of his analysis. Michael found a freeware Windows application called iTunes Sync that synchs your iTunes playlists with any MP3 or digital audio player if that device shows as an external hard drive. I don’t see the Zune on the list of supported players, so I suspect that’s why it’s not there. If you forgot how to tweak your environment so the Zune appears as an external drive, we gotcha covered.

I don’t use iTunes for my muic, so I can’t speak to how well this does or doesn’t work. I’d also fully expect that music from the iTunes Music Store will sync but won’t play on your non-iPod device. However, if you rip CDs to your iTunes collection or have a ton of EMI tunes without DRM, you’re probably in luck.
