Moser Baer To Invest $125 Million In Entertainment Business

Indiantelevision.com has a rather comprehensive interview with Harish Dayani, CEO of Moser Baer‘s entertainment business. The company intends to invest Rs. 500 crores (around $125 million) over 3 years, a major chunk of which will be for the Home Video business. Dayani is targeting 50 percent of the home video market. Some details of their content acquisitions: They have 7000 movie titles, of which around 1800 are Hindi, 600 are international and the rest is regional – Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Punjabi etc. Dayani says that they’re offering distributors a margin of 5 percent, and retailers a margin of 25 percent. They’ve established a distribution network of 500 distributors (as opposed to most others who have 20-40), and 100,000 retailers. The company is targeting a retail network of 300,000, and has also set up 2 stores of their own.
