French MVNO Ten Mobile has run out of cash and is reportedly looking for funds to support its activities… “Orange and Alice (ISP owned by Telecom Italia) would be candidates for buying the company. Also, in parallel, SFR would be the main contender to buy Debitel, another MVNO, which has been on sale for several months” reports Ovum. Apparently Axa Private Equity invested 10 million euros (US$13.36 million) and Ten Mobile burnt through that money in 12 months, mainly via marketing spending (which is a lot less money than, say, Amp’d). However, it only has 15,000 customers with an ARPU of 40-45 euro per month (US$53-60 per month). Ten tried to differentiate itself by providing IP data services and supporting popular internet services such as instant messenger, but this failed when the carriers started supporting those services as well…
