FlightRaja Gets $5 Million In Funds From NEA IndoUS Ventures

Update:
Online Travel Agency Flightraja has received $ 5 million in funding from NEA Indo US Ventures, reports DNA. The company has been renamed Via. Via will expand its offerings, and that’s apparently the reason for the change of name. They’ve begun offering International flight ticketing, will launch bus ticketing next quarter after a tie-up with around 100 bus operators, rail by the third quarter, and hotel reservations by end of the fiscal year. Via claims to book 5000 tickets a day, with revenues of Rs. 700 crores, and broke even with a profit of Rs. 28 crore last year.

The travel space is getting increasingly crowded. Funded OTA’s include MakeMyTrip, Yatra, TravelGuru and Cleartrip. There’s also Cox & Kings’ ezeego1, Travelocity India (currently only books hotels), and Hotmail founder Sabeer Bhatia’s Arzoo, as well as aggregators like Rediff Faresearch, Yahoo Farechase, Zoomtra and TripMela and Meratrip. Then there are others like Travel Chacha (advertising on TV) and Ghumo. As per a conservative estimate, there will be 300 OTAs in India by the year 2010. (Just kidding)
