Google And Yahoo In Talks With NIC For Search Services

The National Informatics Centre (NIC), which hosts a large number of government data, is in talks with Google and Yahoo for providing search across 5000 NIC websites reports Economic Times. Currently, the NIC has a tie-up with Netscape, and also has other search engines. I suppose, given the poor usability of most government websites, search would be critical. Some content hosted by the NIC includes: exam results, Do Not Call registry, records for residence, land ownership, caste and domicile, and birth ad death registries.
