Austin’s Online American Idol FameCast Gets $4.5 Million In Funding

Here’s another company vying to be a digital American Idol… Online talent show FameCast has secured a $4.5 million financing from Austin Ventures, the Austin-American Statesman reported. The funds will go towards marketing efforts in the U.S. and abroad. Would-be stars are asked to submit a video of their performance, which is then voted on by FameCast users. Contestants can enter into 13 different categories such as songwriting, comedy, dancing, filmmaking and animation. Singing is divided into genres such as hip-hop, rock and country. The top five online vote-getters are flown to FameCast’s studios in Austin, Texas, where they compete before a live audience. The winner of each category receives $10,000. The site just completed its first season.
