Virtual workspace tips that aren’t just for web workers

Webworkerdaily_logoWeb Worker Daily is like a Lifehacker for web workers; a daily read for me now that I’ve made the whole world a potential office. WWD recently ran a great article on setting up a productive virtual workspace and I’m certain many of the tips and approaches are quite usable for everyone. Let’s face it: mobile technology enables all of us in some way, shape or form. And workspaces? They can be your vehicle, your local coffee shop, even where the next Olympian athlete hopefuls are training. WWD did a fantastic job with their listing of applications and productivity enhancers; give it a read and then be sure to come back and share your ideas.

One prime tool I see missing is a VoIP application: Skype, Gizmo or whichever your preference is. Although I have two cell phones and the home landline, I’m always more productive when I’m having a voice conversation over my computer with my headset, keeping my hands free. Pairing a VoIP application with a single phone number solution like Grand Central also keeps your calls routed directly to your virtual workspace regardless of your location. A last but not-very-mobile suggestion: add a second monitor as a productivity booster, a must for me at home.
