June NewTeeVee Pier Screenings: The Theme Is Parody

Moonlight shining on the water, web video shining on the screen.

NewTeeVee Screenings at the Pier

The NewTeeVee team is psyched to continue our outdoor screenings summer series, the NewTeeVee Pier Screenings. What better way to have a good time watching online videos on a huge 16-foot outdoor screen than with a twist on old favorites? So, we’re announcing the theme for the June 19th Pier Screening…. (drumroll) …parody. We have opened up a new round of submissions on the dedicated Pier Screenings community site.

Our idea of what qualifies as parody video is pretty broad — from mashups to fan-made music videos to remakes. Think “Brokeback to the Future,” lip dub, or Angry Alien.

You don’t have to make anything special for the contest — prior projects are welcome. But please keep it under five minutes and don’t submit anyone else’s work. We will be screening uploads this time around to make sure you’re riffing on this theme — and also to make sure you’re not employing egregious amounts of copyrighted content.

If your video makes to the final round shown at the Pier Screening on June 19, you have a chance to win the Metacafe Prize for Best Audience-Voted Video. The live audience at the event will choose the top three winners for the night. Metacafe will promote the top three audience winners from the live event on its front page. This will help content creators get exposure as well as some dough – you can expect big page views from getting featured, and the company pays $5 for every 1,000 views.

For more details on how to submit your videos and what prizes are in store for the winners, visit the NewTeeVee Pier Screenings site and Liz Gannes’ previous post. Also, don’t forget to RSVP on Eventbrite to attend the Pier Screening on June 19. We’ll have heat lamps this time, as well as a popcorn machine, beer, and other movie theater fare.

A big thank you to all the sponsors which make the June 19 Pier Screening possible:
