– An interesting writeup here on Digital Music in Asia here at Variety. As per Nigel Mukherjee of Pricewaterhouse Coopers, mobile music accounts for 30 percent of the APAC market and 80 percent of the Chinese Market. Around 61 percent of the respondents to a Synovate Study for MTV are listening to more music now because of digitization and easy availability, but as John Kennedy, Chairmen and CEO of IFPI UK points out – piracy remains an issue and “We cannot compete with free”. Mobile “revenue leakages” in China are around 2.5 percent, with operators and service providers (aggregators) keeping a bulk of the share.
— Motorola has expanded its Chinese online entertainment portal MotoMusic to include 100,000 songs. Motorola claims the site has had 700 million page views in around two years, and one million songs purchased. More on the portal and its community features at MocoNews.
