Lenovo Thinkpad X61 Tablet debuts

Lenovo_x61_tablet_pcOK, it’s not like we didn’t know these were about to appear, but the good news is that you can actually order a new Lenovo X61 Tablet PC and expect to see it shipped about two weeks later. Hit up the product page for the new tabby along with some discounts; the base unit has the $2,029 price slashed to $1,609 and there are some good accessory deals as well. The starting package includes:

  • 12.1-inch SXGA Multi-View screen; upgrade to Multi-Touch for $100
  • Intel® Core™ 2 Duo  L7500 LV at 1.6 GHz
  • Windows Vista Home Premium included, upgrades include Vista Business and Ultimate
  • 512 MB of 667 MHz RAM; you’ll likely want 1 GB minimum ($55 – $65), 2 GB would be better ($165)
  • 60 GB 5400 RPM hard drive; various faster and higher capacity drives are available
  • No Bluetooth ($29 to add); 802.11a/b/g integrated
  • 8-cell Lithium-Ion batter

Gotta Be Mobile has one in the house as of yesterday, so stay tuned as I expect one of their famous Ink Shows to provide all of the details behind the new Lenovo X61.

Does anyone think the X-series tablets will get converted to widescreen displays? I may go for the HP Compaq 2710p since it has a 12.1″ widescreen display.

Supposedly, with the new Battery Extender software and the 8 cell battery, this is supposed to get up to 11 or MORE hours of battery life. Inking on the X60 is already great – getting 11 hours of use (or even 8 hours, quite frankly) would move this tablet to the very top of my next purchase list.
