Alltel has encouraged the US Federal Communications Commission to offer smaller regional licenses during the auction, which it argues will encourage rural deployments. The company has also urged the FCC to ignore the proposed plan by Frontline Wireless to set aside a block of the license for use by public-safety officers, reports RCR News, calling it “last minute, self-serving”. Meanwhile, MetroPCS has raised another $300 million adding to the $1 billion raised earlier — the funds will be used for general corporate purposes, which could include buying spectrum.
