Turner nets TNT and TBS are taking the next big broadband step, a first for major cable nets — posting all episodes of original summer series online albeit for limited stints. All seven shows including TNT’s return hit The Closer (finally) and the new TBS comedy House of Pain will go online, usually at 3 a.m. the following day and will be online for a month, according to B&C. As B&C notes and we’ve written before here, cable networks face different hurdles than their broadcast counterparts when it comes to putting full-length streaming — particularly with the cable operators who pay their fees. Cooperating with operators’ VOD plans appears to have helped in this case; most of the series will be on Comcast and TW VOD in the same window. Turner is now insisting on streaming rights when it greenlights new series but has had to negotiate retroactively with some.
