AOL Close To Appointing AT&T’s Burbank As CMO

AOL is close to appointing John Burbank, formerly AT&T’s VP of marketing, as its new CMO, OnlineMediaDaily reported. The Time Warner unit sought out Burbank because of his familiarly with multi-platform content distribution and his ability to strike deals with major content producers, OMD added, citing an unnamed source. Burbank worked on the Cingular brand before it was renamed AT&T, and ran a marketing budget of $185 million. Among the deals he struck was an online battle of the bands on YouTube and Cingular-sponsored original mini-episodes of the HBO series Entourage. This appointment will happen after a seven-month long search that began shortly after AOL replaced Jon Miller with Randy Falco as its CEO, and lost a slew of senior executives.
