iTunes plus statistical analysis equals tune auto-rating

In our house, the most under-used feature of iTunes is the rating system. We’ve got three iPods in the house and iTunes installed on at least four computers, yet we never seem to find the time to use the ratings. AutoRate might solve that issue for us, at least on our MacBook Pro since the software is Mac only. AutoRate uses the data on tunes played and tunes skipped to determine an automatic rating for each song in your library. Here’s the formula for those of you that enjoy the statistical side of things like I do; I once took an Econometrics college class just for fun:

"rating = (100 * ( (play frequency – lower) /  (upper – lower) ) – skips per month * 5Where upper is the main play frequency + 2 standard deviations, and lower is the mean play frequency – 2 standard deviations"

Oh yeah, standard deviations and digital music: does it get any better? AutoRate is free, but you can donate to the author if you feel his mathematical prowess deserves a tip.
