MTV Australia has launched a new pay television station that allows viewers to upload their own content via mobile phone or internet which will be aired on the network. It’s based on a Dutch service called The Music Factory (TMF) which MTV acquired in 2002, reports AAP. “For one hour each day, TMF will broadcast user-generated videos uploaded via the internet or mobile phone…Viewers will be able to introduce their favourite music clip, show their dance moves or review concerts…During the rest of the broadcasting schedule, viewers can upload photos to colour TMF’s content using images and channel identity promotions – known as “idents” – running between video clips.” The eventual plan is to have live-to-air content, such as when a viewer has just seen their favorite band. This is apparently the first time the channel has had user-generated content. MTV is shown on the Foxtel cable network, but there’s no mention on the program at the moment of TMF, and it’s unclear where the channel will be shown.
