MagicMouse- 3D peripheral you can take with you

MagicmouseThe lowly computer mouse hasn’t changed very much over the years.  Sure they come in all sizes and colors but they basically do what they’ve always done, point to stuff on the screen and click to make something happen.  Some innovative people have produced 3D mice over the years but none that have taken off due to the clunky mechanism.  A group of students may have changed all that with a project they did at school that has produced the MagicMouse.  The MagicMouse is a ring that wirelessly manipulates the interface in a very cool way.  Moving the ring left and right, up and down moves the cursor just like any mouse but moving closer and farther from the screen affects a zoom function.  What makes this especially exciting is that it uses a standard USB mouse control so no drivers are needed.  The MagicMouse is in prototype stage and the students are continuing their work to realize its full potential.  There is a nice video of the MagicMouse team here.
