Coke signs AdMob: Coca-Cola has chosen advertising firm AdMob to deliver user-generated video ads on mobile phones, Mobile Entertainment reports. The ads direct mobile web browsers to a Coke landing page where they can view the aptly named Bottle Films, short films made by customers in response to a competition on the company’s website. The campaign is being rolled out in 160 countries and is a test for a video ad tools package offered by AdMob and due to be rolled out later this year.
A new twist: Indian company mGinger.com is offering to pay people to read SMS advertising, reports The Economic Times. “People generally get SMS carpet-bombed. Advertisers get mobile phone numbers illegally and bombard them with unwanted ads without permission. Veerendra was so fed up with such messages. We hit upon this idea of targeted advertising with users’ permission, for which they get paid.” It’s better than getting the numbers illegally, but it’s not going to replace the spam, just add to the number of messages.
