The Chinese government has announced that W-CDMA and cdma2000 will compete with homegrown standard TD-SCDMA when the licenses are finally issued. “The three world standards will all be used in China,” said Yang Peifang, secretary general of the ministry’s telecommunication economist panel”, reports TelecomAsia. “We will let operators choose which standard they want to use. But the government will decide how many 3G licenses are issued,” said Xi Guohua, Vice Minister of Information Industry.” I get the impression none of the Chinese telcos are particularly keen on the TD-SCDMA standard.
