– Canal Plus goes to court over clips: Canal Plus will take legal action against French-based video clip hosting service Kewego for alleged copyright violations — the first litigation of its kind in France…it is demanding $1.5 million in damages.
— ABC Unveils HD Broadband Slate: ABC will begin making hi-def broadband content available on its website starting in the summer. As part of a beta test in July, ABC will show episodes of Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy and Ugly Betty on an HD broadband channel on its site. When the new season launches in September, an expanded HD programming lineup will be presented. Also in the fall, ABC.com will begin to showcase national news and local content on its full-episode player. This content will be monetized with local ads and other individualized marketing.
— Comedy Central Brings Back User-Gen Series: Comedy Central has launched its second annual Comedy Central Test Pilots series, an online competition where participants upload their one- to five-minute productions in the form of live action, animation, sketch and hidden camera. The winner will have the chance to receive $5,000, a potential online development deal with ComedyCentral.com and the chance for their work to air on Comedy Central’s late-night series Web Shows.
— TLC Launches Broadband Series: TLC is starting its first straight-to-broadband series, Makeover Train, this June. Each three-minute webisode of Makeover Train will feature three stylists who ride the Boston subway and search for commuters in need of an on-the-spot touch-up.
— HBO will pilot ‘Flight’ online: HBO, in conjunction with the interactive advertising agency Deep Focus, has partnered with MySpace and several video-sharing sites as part of an online marketing campaign to debut the pilot episode of new comedy series “Flight of the Conchords.”
