NTV Moneymaker: NBCU Coming to Silicon Valley

NBC Universal has revealed some of its plans to set up a “Digital Media Product Lab” in Silicon Valley, with a job post looking for its would-be director this week. The listing tacitly acknowledges that we northern-left-coasters have something to offer the big powerful content companies.

The Product Lab will enable the NBCU Digital Media product team to provide “real-time” response to technology innovation and evolving user behaviors & business models. By establishing an environment that fosters creativity and freedom to “experiment,” the Lab will provide selected candidates the job stability of one of the leading global media & entertainment leaders, and the creative working environment of a startup.

The requirements for the director role are pretty rigorous, demanding executive-level experience in digital media and a science or engineering degree. However, the job is apparently based in Santa Clara — a little far south of the hottest digital media action, to our minds. But we’re biased.

P.S. NewTeeVee would be happy to conduct the first interview with whoever is chosen for the director position.

NTV Moneymaker is an irregular feature in which we showcase a way to make a living with your video skills.
