Murugavel Janakiraman Appointed IAMAI Chairman; Subho Ray To Continue As President

The IAMAI, an association of Internet and Mobile companies in India has appointed Murugavel Janakiraman (Muruga), Founder and CEO of Bharatmatrimony.com as its Chairman for 2007-08. He takes over from Anupam Mittal, Chairman of the People group which owns Bharatmatrimony competitor Shaadi.com. Jaspreet Bindra, Country Manager, MSN and Windows Live takes over as Vice Chairman from Avnish Bajaj, Managing Partner of Matrix Partners. Upen Roop Rai, Director, Times Internet, is the new Treasurer. Dr. Subho Ray will continue as the President of the IAMAI. He had taken over from Preeti Desai a year ago.
Four focus areas have been identified for the IAMAI:
1. Making the IAMAI more representative
2. Lobbying with the government and other stakeholders
3. Institution of training programmes to encourage the younger generation to join this industry
4. Supporting new entrepreneurs

The association now has a new Telecom minister to deal with…I’m wondering about the ratio of Internet to Mobile companies at the IAMAI: their conferences seem to have more of an Internet focus.
