The German Federal Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt) had decided to launch a detailed examination of the plans for a joint DVB-H mobile TV network by three German operators — O2, Vodafone and T-Mobile. The examination will probably take about three months, but the watchdog hasn’t outlined exactly what reservations it has about the venture, reports Heise. I can see where having three out of four major operators teaming up to offer a service could raise warning flags, but in the case of mobile TV it shouldn’t raise a problem because it isn’t the only form of TV the customers can get (so media bias isn’t a concern) and if the operators don’t team up there’s a chance it might not get launched at all. There is a DMB network already operating in 16 cities.
