NBC, MTV, IFC Sponsor Online Shows

Looking for some fresh shows in web video land? Here’s a batch of new options from the networks.

Icebox will be producing a series of its “Hidden Celebrity Webcam” animated shorts sponsored by the MTV Film Awards and distributed online by GoFish, with 13 new episodes posted weekly. On June 6 the team will also be kicking off a user submission contest, for which a lucky winner will get to meet with a real live-ish agent from Rothman Brecher Agency.

The Independent Film Channel (IFC) today debuted its new web series, “Getting Away with Murder,” on VMIX. The show follows the adventures of a live-at-home hipster who loves mom and massacre — contributor Steve Bryant has a full review on Reel Pop. A 13-episode series kicked off yesterday as part of IFC’s Dot Com Month, which will also feature live online coverage of Cannes starting this week.

And Michael Eisner isn’t the only guy throwing money at web video melodrama — NBC is getting into the game with “Coastal Dreams,” described as “a new, young soap opera with an attractive cast and all of the drama and excitement of daytime.” This item accompanied a slate of announcements. Interestingly enough, daytime staple Passions will also feature a series of new webisodes when the show moves from broadcast to DirecTV.
