The Japanese government plans to set up a “ubiquitous special zone” which will be used to test mobile web applications and see what sort of consumer-friendly technologies can be developed in such a network, reports Japan Economic Newswire. Examples given in the article include:
–Produce will carry IC tags that phones will be able to read, allowing people will be able to check the names of producers and how the produce has been grown.
–Sensors will monitor pedestrian movements and send data to onboard terminals in cars to control their speed in an effort to prevent traffic accidents.
–Senior citizens living by themselves will have sensors checking their blood pressure and pulse data which will be constantly sent to hospitals, allowing doctors to take action if there is a problem.
