Microsoft has made its Windows Mobile 6 operating system available as a free desktop download for owners of the T-Mobile Dash, reports the New York Times, reporting its the first time the OS is available in the US. Versions for other smartphones will be available soon, although it’s unclear whether they will require payment. Microsoft Entertainment and Devices Division President Robbie Bach has said that Microsoft plans to sell 20 million copies of the operating system — I don’t know if these downloads are included. The handsets will be sold with the OS in retail stores and online beginning in June. (release)
