ContentSutra has learned that the Delhi High Court has granted Super Cassette Industries (T-Series) an interim stay order, restraining Indian humor website Santabanta.com from streaming audio and video content from some movies for which T-Series has music rights. The movies in question include Salaam-e-ishq, Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd and Shakalaka Boom Boom, among others. T-Series has alleged that Santabanta.com was publishing songs without any authorization from the company. I found a couple of links at Santabanta.com to videos from the movie Shakalaka Boom Boom, and they seem to have been removed.
Readers will recall that earlier Business Standard had published a report that suggested that T-Series had filed a lawsuit against Google in the Delhi High Court. We learned from sources T-Series had sent legal notices to Google regarding the copyright violation, and not filed a lawsuit in the Delhi High Court.
There are other websites that feature content to which T-Series has rights – YouTube still does – so it will be interesting to see whether T-Series goes on some kind of a spree, sending notices to other sites, or waits for a judgment in the case against Santabanta.com.
