Earnings: T-Mobile USA Revenue Up 12.6 Percent

T-Mobile USA has reported its earnings for the first quarter ending March 31, showing a year-on-year increase in revenue of 12.6 percent to $4,546 million, with pretty much all that growth coming from postpay services (which brought in $3,617 million). Net income increased 30.7 percent year-on-year to $315 million. T-Mobile added 980,000 net new additions during the first quarter, with 74 percent of those being postpay customers, bringing the total customer base to 26 million (21.9 million postpay).

ARPU for T-Mobile was $52, up from $51 for Q1 2006, while postpay ARPU was $56 (up from $54 in Q1 2006).

Data revenues came in at $570 million for the first quarter, representing 14.3 percent of blended ARPU or $7.50 per customer (although 60 cents of that is from WiFi revenues, which are being included as data for the first time). It still shows a $1.80 increase in data ARPU year-on-year. The number of messages sent increased to almost 16 billion in the first quarter, up from 7 billion in the first quarter of 2006.
