Could online screen tests be the new casting call? Could vlogs be the new headshots? That’s one trend being suggested by the latest call for entries over at Vlip, the video clip destination site from SightSpeed (see previous coverage). They’re using Craigslist to troll for talent, whom they’re asking to post videos to their site.
A new winner will be selected each week by the self-proclaimed “experts in online video,” who tout their connections at MTV and with the press. Besides a chance of getting “discovered,” they also promise that there’s an opportunity for a paid position.
Don’t believe the hype? Let them reassure you:
[A]lthough we have been in beta with Vlip only for a few weeks now, we already have had two Vlip success stories — one regular Vlipper is now hosting his own show on DirecTV and another regular Vlipper has just been signed to one of the biggest modeling agencies in the world.
While it’s certainly an opportunity for Vlip to build their user base, who knows, maybe you just might get noticed. Considering what some of my acting friends have gone through for work, shooting a video at home and posting it to Vlip is surely less awkward than some producer making less-than-subtle casting couch insinuations.
NTV Moneymaker is an irregular feature in which we showcase a way to make a living with your video skills.
