Shortage Of Trained Personnel Plagues Gaming And Animation Industry

A Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology has recommended the setting up of a National Center for Excellence in Animation, Gaming and Special Effects, reports Indiantelevision. However, the proposal for its inclusion has been pending before the Planning Commission, and a budgetary allocation of only Rs. 10 lakh has been made. The Committee estimates that around 3000 trained personnel are needed every year for gaming and animation. More here.
Almost on cue, the Economic Times carries a story on the shortage of personnel in the gaming business – estimating the shortage of designers at between 500 and 700. Nazara Technologies are apparently now seeking international designers. At Jump games, only 5 of 180 people are designers and Jump is willing to shell out $2000-3000 a month for international designers
