Malaysian mobile operator Maxis has announced a strategic alliance with MayBank to let users pay for content and services using their mobile phones, Banking Business Review reports. The service, called M-money, is billed as the country’s first complete m-payment offer and will eventually allow users to transfer money mobile to mobile within neighboring countries with Maxis international mobile remittance service.
At launch (no detail on when that is or was) users can pay for pizza from Domino’s and mobile content downloads on offer from Maxis as well as the new myzone teen portal operated by MayBank at Maybank2u.com. They will also be able to pay their Maxis bills or top up through M-money. (M-money lets users pay in advance using their mobile phone number, without a credit card.)
Contactless payments top the list of future plans. The two companies will offer so-called “wave n pay” services, letting customers user their handsets in a touch and go payment system for transport, for example.
