WidSets: downloadable widgets for mobiles

Widsets_on_dashWe mentioned on a recent podcast that phone widgets are in the works for the S60 devices, but if you’re the adventurous beta type, you can try some now. Even better: there’s a wide array of supported phone devices at the WidSets website, plus you can easily create your own widgets! I was unsuccessful with my XV 6700, but my T-Mobile Dash now has a Twitter widget courtesy of WidSets; the widget runs as a Java app which is supported by the Dash. You can pick & choose your widgets and then have a text message sent to your phone with a link to the widget downloads. Alternatively, you can just enter the provided URL in your phone’s browser to install them.

Some of the default widgets include ones for eBay, the BBC, Wikipedia, TechCrunch, Digg, Flickr and Sudoku. WidSets boasts over 1,000 widgets in their library, plus it appears relatively easy to create your own. I’ll be futzing with this some more as it seems a very easy way to extend your phone device, assuming your device is supported. Hmm….who’s up for a jkOnTheRun RSS widget? ;)

Thanks to our ‘UK mobile mate’, Phil for the tip!
