Messaging Company Apptix Acquires WebMessenger For $7 Million, Focus On Mobile IM & Presence

Apptix has snapped up WebMessenger Inc. for $7 million in a combination of cash and company stock. The aim of the acquisition, which provides Apptix with access to Web Messenger’s mobile messaging and collaboration tools, is to make a play for SMbs with enhanced email and voice services. WebMessenger’s technology enables mobile IM, real-time presence, VoIP and collaboration services, allowing road warriors to stay connected via a variety of public and private IM networks (including AOL, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, GoogleTalk, Jabber, Skype, IBM Lotus Sametime, Jabber XCP, Microsoft Live Communications Server and Reuters Messaging). Apptix agreed to pay $4 million was paid in cash at the time of closing and $3 million will be paid in cash or stock at the company
