This happened last week, but just for the record: Indiatimes has also undergone a revamp, details of which are available here. The improvement in usability seems to limited to the cover page – the inside pages are much the same. A drastic reduction in advertising on the site, though the ‘hot links’ at the bottom seems to be an advertising section, though not clearly demarcated as one. No more shoshkeles or popups? While the site looks far more usable, let’s see if the tabbed browsing for content reduces views. They consulted Human Factors International for usability. We’d reported earlier of sister concern timesofindia.com getting a makeover.
Also, HT Media’s had a very quick change of heart: The website for ‘Mint’, their financial newspaper in collaboration with WSJ, now allows access to content without registration. So was the change necessitated by lack of uptake? Or do they think they’ve collected sufficient user data (if there is such a thing). [via Fatal Error]
