600 Million Indian Subscribers By 2011

India will have 600 million mobile subscribers by 2011, according to a predictions from the Centre for Telecoms Research in London. A large portion of the growth will be from prepaid connections and driven by the increasing affordability of handsets and tariffs amongst India’s lower middle classes, reports Cellular News. “The report also expects mobile phone users to spend more on mobile data services driven largely by the popularity of Bollywood mobile content (e.g. Ringtones, Icons etc ),” which will be simple content to start with but the enthusiasm Indians have for Bollywood coupled with the sheer size of the market should see it become very large.
