Google Makes Mobile “A Big Focus” Of Southeast Asia Advance

A lot of questions surround Google’s decision to open an office in Singapore last week, including the exact size of the engineering team and their precise plans, but it’s sure that mobile will top Google’s agenda, ZDNetAsia reports. Google sees the pivotal importance as mobile as a way for users to access and search content (another clear confirmation that mobile search is rising to become the de facto interface of content). All the more reason why mobile will likely be “a big focus” for the R&D team there, said Richard Kimber, Google’s regional managing director for India and Southeast Asia. Kimber declined to say how much Google has invested, or plans to invest, in its Singapore office. Staff could be as small as 10 or as large as 100, or anywhere in between. The article reports Google’s corporate site listed some 20 job vacancies in its Singapore office, with positions that include engineering center director, IT field technician, AdWords and client services associates and online sales managers.
