The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) has formed the National Academy of Media Arts & Sciences (NAMAS), a peer group for new-media content creators. It’s been carefully designed to avoid some of the jurisdiction issues between the New York-based group (non-prime time Emmys) and its counterpart in LA, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (prime time Emmys)– no awards for broadband or other new media content. Instead the group — headed by Bob Wright, the outgoing chairman of NBCU — will focus on bringing in new media members and on education. As TVWeek points out, this is not to be confused with NATAS’ own Advanced Media Committee. (Although reading back through this anyone who claims not to be confused by the festival of acronyms and agendas is either whopping or does mazes for a living.)
