German Provider Offers Lifetime Access Package For Broadcast Mobile TV

The company hasn’t formally announced it yet, but various German-language sites (like this one) report Mobiles Fernsehen Deutschland (MFD) has launched a “lifelong” subscription package that gives users unlimited access to its mobile TV offer for a one-time fee of EUR99 ($135). There is no additional data charge since MFD uses spectrum from local media authorities to broadcast TV signals to mobile phones using the DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcast) standard. The so-called watcha offer includes access to TV stations ZDF, N24, ProSiebenSat.1 Mobile and MTV Music as well as the radio station BigFM2See. I called the press office, which confirmed the offer, and noted that the life-long offer is linked to the lifetime of the device, not the user. MFD also offers the package together with the Samsung SGH-900 and LG V9000 devices, but users have to pay a couple hundred dollars extra to cover the cost of the device.
